In this huge “struggle to juggle,” I hear from so many burned-out professionals just trying to keep all of their balls in the air. From all different parts of the country, age groups, and specialties, people are screaming “UNCLE!” It brings to mind my all time favorite Seinfeld quote, “SERENITY NOW!” Are you available to everyone, all the time, via your cell phone, email, pager, or messenger pigeon? Are you missing out on living, because you are living to work? Are you “open” to the world 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? If you do not set very clear and intentional boundaries around your technology, you are a walking convenience store.

I find it fascinating that most people plan their vacations with better care than they plan their lives. Perhaps that is because escape is easier than change. - Jim Rohn
If you have reached a point in your life where having a break to get away from it all is your only oasis, it is probably worth looking closer to home for a break in the clouds. A break from old thinking or old habits or old lifestyle can be more exhilarating than flying off to Barbados with the same old baggage. Because the trouble with old baggage is that it invariably sags - especially on the way home. So, how can you go nowhere and yet still get away from it all - permanently?

“If I could only figure this out, I think I could find
happiness.” That was the comment a close friend made during
a recent conversation. This is not the first time, nor will
it be the last that I hear this statement.
Many people believe that finding happiness is based on
finding something else they want. In my experience as a
personal coach, no one has ever found long term happiness
by achieving another goal. Ultimately, to find happiness is
to look within.

Mothers. Much has been written about, dedicated to, analyzed, scrutinized and attributed to this pillar of our existence. Over the years, the cliché of the patient on the couch being asked “Why do you hate your mother?” has become as familiar as Toll House® cookies and Goodnight Moon.
We blame the ‘refrigerator mothers’ of the 50’s, working mothers in the 70’s, we point fingers at coddling, aloofness, guilt, rigidity, permissiveness. Mother’s it seems, have fought a losing battle over the years.
I admit, I did my share of “mother blame” through the therapy-laden decades in which I raised my children.

We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are. -Anais Nin.
Awareness is key. That is slowly becoming my signature statement, and it counts in both professional and private life.
I truly believe that constant and conscious awareness of what is going on inside and outside of us is the key to living a fulfilling life and running successful businesses.
Finding “the answer” is NOT the key. Let me explain.
